Family, police appeal to public for information on Vanessa's murder.
Police hope someone saw something at the store that will help lead them to the killer. Anyone with information should call Montgomery County Crime Solvers at (800) 673-2777.
When they got the call Vanessa's family, Denise Philp and her children, Jasmine, 22, and Adonis, 17, rushed to Maryland from their Bronx, N.Y., home.
There had been a fire in her sister's Rockville consignment shop, and Vanessa Johnson-Sosin, 39, was found dead.
Police ruled the Feb. 8 incident a homicide and started an arduous process of combing through tiny, burnt scraps at the scene that might help the investigation.
About 400 friends and relatives turned out for a funeral in Silver Spring, and left large flower arrangements and pictures in front of the boarded-up store on West Montgomery Avenue next to reward posters asking for information.
Vanessa's sister joined Cliff, and her mother, Nannie O'Neil, to make an urgent plea to the public for help in solving Johnson-Sosin's murder.
Police spokesman Officer Derek Baliles said Montgomery Crime Solvers has offered a $1,000 award for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or people responsible for Johnson-Sosin's death. Her family has offered another Ten Thousand Dollars on top of that for a reward.
"They and we remain convinced that somebody saw something," Baliles said Tuesday.
Police continue to seek information on the woman and describe her as black, 30 to 40 years old, with a large build. She was wearing a black puffy coat, perhaps filled with down, with a hemline above the knee, and a black pill box-style hat with earflaps.
Anyone who may know the woman described by police, or who may have information relating to the case, is asked to call police at 240-773-5070 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 800-673-2777.
